FAQ's
Where else can I find your audio plays?
Right now, SpokenNetwork.com is the only online service offering downloads of the "We Have Ignition" plays. CD's of The Field are available through this site in exchange for tax-deductible donations.
Do you collaborate with other audio theatre producers or companies?
Right now I am involved with several collaborations with theatre companies and theatre spaces (The Filling Station among them) and have several collaborations in the works, and that's not counting the National Audio Theatre Festivals and AudioComics. So for the forseeable future I am only sticking with the aforementioned and will not take on any new "partners." Those who I will work with are those who I have known over a period of time; if you're inquiring about collaborating and I don't know you, well, that's about the same as getting a call from a telemarketer. And we all hate those.
What is your policy regarding script submissions?
Play it by Ear does not accept script submissions. So please don't send me any, or inquire about sending me any. Seriously, or LANCE SMASH! ...No, wait, that's the Hulk...
When do you hold auditions?
Casting occurs on a show-by-show basis; again I prefer to work with those who I have known over a period of time: I know what those people are capable of doing, I know I can work well with them. If and when I announce an open call for voice-over CD's, you are welcome to send one (audio book narration, please, not a commercial CD) with an acting resume to the contact address listed on the home page. If you have a MP3 of your demo, even better. Experience in front of a microphone, technical proficiency, and advanced acting training are a must. Your voice will give you away! The good ones will be passed on to the director and playwright of each show (they make the final decisions), the bad ones won't, it's that simple.
Also, I prefer to work with all of my actors in the same studio at the same time. Theatre is a shared experience. It doesn't work for me when the actors are spread around the country sending me their lines from their home studios with different ambiences. Those work great for commercials and single narrator audio books, but not for full-cast audio theatre. If I do call for demos, it will be from actors physically based in the city where I will be recording.
And last, but not least: DO NOT SEND A HEADSHOT WITH YOUR SUBMISSION, ONLY YOUR VOICE-OVER SAMPLE AND YOUR RESUME! The quality of your voice is what matters, not your physical appearance! By supplying the director and/or playwright with a headshot, you are supplying a physical assumption that could actually hurt your chances of being cast in a role. Any submission containing a headshot will be discarded.
